Suspect Sought in Raleigh Attacks

Posted August 4, 1997

— Investigators are searching for a man they say attacked and attempted to rape two women in southwest Raleigh over the weekend.

Police say the first attack happened early Sunday morning when a 24-year-old woman was attacked in the 3200 block of the Walnut Creek Apartments off Gorman Street. The woman fought and got away.

About 20 minutes later, investigators say a man matching the description of the suspect in the first incident attacked a woman at the Melrose Place Apartments on Trailwood Drive. She too got away.

Melrose Place Apartments is known for its tight security. It's that fact that has some believing the suspect may be a friend of someone in the complex, or may even live there themselves.

The suspect is described as a while male in his mid to late 20s, 5'10" tall, 165 pounds, with sandy blond hair. Police are working with the women to develop a composite.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Raleigh Police Department or Crimestoppers.

From staff and wire reports.
