Durham CrimeStoppers To Reward Information on Illegal Weapons
Posted August 1, 1997
DURHAM — Durham Crimestoppers and the CCB Foundation are starting a program to reward people who turn in others who carry illegal weapons.
If the weapon is found and the suspect is convicted, the tipster gets $100. A $10,000 grant from CCB will pay for the program.
Organizers hope the program will help get guns off the streets. They also think it will be more effective than gun buy-back programs, which pays people to turn in weapons, though not necessarily weapons used to commit crimes or weapons that were illegally owned.im
