Volunteers Repair Old Bikes for Children

Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — Each December, Moses Mathis and several volunteers repair old bikes forneedy children out in his backyard in Cumberland County. The programreached 1100 kids last year, and Mathis hopes many more will get thechance to ride away on two wheels this year.

To make that goal a reality he's taking to the airwaves and sending outhundreds of letters asking for help.

"After we gave out the 1,100 bicycles, we still had agencies, parents andthe churches come to us and say do you have any left over," said Mathis. "And that kind of bothers us because we feel that with as many good peoplein the county, that we can get at least 2,000 bicycles to give out to kidsat Christmas time."

If you would like to help, you can call 910-822-2034. Donations can be inthe form of money, new bikes or broken ones that can be fixed.
