Former Dropouts Wear Caps and Gowns at Last

CLINTON — A group of high-risk high school dropouts wrapped up what's called the Tarheel Challenge Friday with a long overdue graduation ceremony in Clinton.
The challenge wasn't simply to walk away with a high-school education, it was also an effort to change their lives. The graduates were part of the Tarheel Challenge, a program established to help high-risk, high school dropouts. The program was at one time threatened with the loss of funds but, fortunately for these graduates, the federal government did come through with money.
