Former Dropouts Wear Caps and Gowns at Last

Posted July 25, 1997

— A group of high-risk high school dropouts wrapped up what's called the Tarheel Challenge Friday with a long overdue graduation ceremony in Clinton.

The challenge wasn't simply to walk away with a high-school education, it was also an effort to change their lives. The program was at one time threatened with the loss of funds but, fortunately for these graduates, the federal government did come through with money.
