Posted Updated

NEW ORLEANS — Residents of southern Louisiana are emergingfrom their homes and inspecting the damage from Hurricane''Danny.''

And some are surprised at how powerful a punch they received.

A woman in Venice, Lousiana says, ''We just never knew it wasgoing to be this bad.'' Her own house trailer survived -- but twoothers down the road were burst open by the 75-mile-an-hour wind.

The storm left water five feet deep in some areas.

It then headed toward coastal Mississippi and Alabama, becomingalmost stationary off the Mississippi coast in the afternoon.

It could become stronger before moving ashore somewhere aroundMobile, Alabama early tomorrow.

Along coastal Mississippi, which is somewhat protected bybarrier islands, the major threat is flooding -- with rainfall ofmore than ten inches possible.
