Posted July 14, 1997
RALEIGH — A series of explosions rocked a North Raleigh home Sunday, leading to a fire that gutted the structure. No serious injuries were reported, although a firefighter was treated for heat exposure.
Neighbors said the events at 4804 Poland Place began about 5:30 p.m. with sounds of explosions, possibly from the garage. Seconds later, the garage of the two-story home went up in flames.
No one was home at the time; names of the occupants were not available.
The fire produced extensive smoke, which could be seen from the Beltline, miles away. Flames were extinguished about 20 minutes after firefighters arrived. The house sustained considerable smoke and heat damage.
