Grandfather Held in Infant Kidnapping

Posted July 27, 2007

— Authorities said the biological grandfather of a kidnapped infant is behind bars in Mississippi.

Investigators said Joseph Richard Triste surrendered to authorities Tuesday. Authorities said he was involved with the abduction of Madison Erickson from her adoptive family in Mississippi.

Authorities said three masked people broke into the adoptive family's home and abducted her at gunpoint. The baby was found 18 hours later at a home in Fort Bragg.

Triste, along with Jamie Kiefer, the child's biological mother, and Kiefer's sister, Rikki Swann, have been charged with kidnapping and armed robbery, authorities said.

Authorities said they believe Kiefer changed her mind about placing the child for adoption and decided to kidnap her. Erickson has been returned to her adoptive parents.

Grandpa if you had sit your grandaughter down an explanded right from wrong instead of helping her--- life as you all know it would be better. Some times we have to tell our love ones NO. It hurts us but right is right is right. Look at the big picture-------What is right for the BABY. Does this action hurt her? Answer::::::::: YES YES YES YES.Think before doing. The birth mother gave up her right when she signd on dotted line. That made everything you and her sister did WRONG WRONG. I pray you have time think about this and under stand this is not about you, her birthmother or her sister. THIS IS ABOUT MADISON.

She gives up her child for adoption. She changes her mind, and convinces her sister and the child's grandfather to wear masks and bring a gun to take her back. These folks are criminals, not parents. At what point, do you look at what you are doing and justify these actions? Normal people would know beforehand, how this is going to turn out. Losers begat losers.

The Grandpa was arrested as well? Stupid breeds stupid. Maybe if the Mom had been on birth control we wouldn't be reading about this.

Their actions have ensured that they will never see the child again.

The child was legally given up for adoption therefore the child is where she belongs. The biological mother, aunt and grandfather should all be charged with kidnapping and kept away from that child.

Pike are you speaking as an adoptive person? How can you say that for all adopted people?

  • teacher-mom Jul 27, 2007

I think parents who give their children up for adoption have a year to change their minds. I do not know how hard it is for them to get the children back. It must be hard; otherwise, they would not be kidnapping what is still legally their child.

Wrong Pikemom....I have adopted friends...some have found bios...some have not cared to find bios. Parents are not who gives birth, parents are the one who raise and nuture.

  • WhyWhyWhy Jul 27, 2007

PikeMom- wrong! I speak firsthand, you are wrong, wrong, wrong about feeling complete. The fact of the matter is - most people who don't feel complete feel that way because they either don't like who they are or they don't know who they are. It has nothing to do with adoption or who your parents are, that empty feeling comes from a sense of self-knowledge and self-worth.

I have a friend who is adopted. Her adoptive parents told her that they would help her find her birth mother should she ever want to. She says that the only thing that she would have to say to her was thank you for giving me to the best parents in the world. For that I am eternally grateful.
