Double Murder Closes Part of Blue Ridge Parkway

ASHEVILLE — Police sealed off part of the Blue Ridge Parkway in Asheville aftera double murder Thursday morning. Two men have been arrested inconnection with the slayings, but police are still looking for a murderweapon.

Valerie Sue Riddle, 24, and her five-year-old son Kelly Mark Laird werefound along the Blue Ridge Parkway overnight. Police say they had beenbrutally stabbed.

Only hours after the bodies were found, 19-year-old Lyle Clinton May wascharged with two counts of first degree murder. Dale Elerby Godfrey, 23,was charged with accessory after the fact.

Police have said little about a possible motive. They do say that Mayknew Riddle. They also believe the woman and her son were killedsomewhere else and their bodies dumped along the parkway.
