Woman Gains Twins, Loses Husband in Same Week

SILER CITY — The birth of twins is usually a happyevent, but a Siler City woman experienced that joy and the death ofher husband, all in the same early June week. Now the family is showingits true spirit by carrying on in the face of tragedy.

Sharon Pyrtle gave birth to twin girls on June 10.Five days later, on Father's Day, her husband Gary died of cancer.

She barely had time to grieve. Besides the twins, Pyrtle has threeother children to care for. WRAL-TV5'sAmanda Lambspent some time withthe Pyrtles and found that, somehow, this courageous family has found thestrength to go on.

A home video shows Gary Pyrtle sharing Christmas 1996 with hisfamily. A photograph shows him just before his death holding his newborntwins Elaina Faith and Bethany Hope.

Sharon Pyrtle believes her husband held on to his life so that he couldmeet the twins.

Sharon manages to carry on with the help of her family, her churchand her 3 other children. She says some days she rejoices and other daysshe mourns.

Lindsey, Michelle and Matthew Pyrtle all say they have fond memories oftheir dad.

As a school teacher Sharon Pyrtle says she wants to give her childrenevery opportunity in education and in life.
