CLINTON — Police have one man back in custody, but they're still looking for two others who escaped from a Sampson County jail.
Donyall Smith of Rose Hill, Henry Julius Dunn of Mount Olive and Terrell Maurice Fishburne of Clinton escaped about 4 p.m. Sunday, said Sampson County sheriff's Maj. John Hayes.
Police say the men assaulted two jailers and sprayed them with mace before breaking out.
Smith, who was discovered about 90 minutes later a few blocks from the jail, is a murder suspect. Additional charges filed against him include two counts of assault on a government employee, and one count each of escape, common law robbery and first-degree kidnapping.
Police say Dunn, 28, and Fishburne, 18, are still on the loose. Fishburne was serving time on drug charges and Dunn was being held for a charge of assault with a deadly weapon, Hayes said.
