Eighty-two-year-old Robey Morgan of Glendale showed just how powerfulan octagenarian's lungs can be. His virtuoso performance began with awail like a siren that gradually shifted into a rendition of "AmazingGrace."
It was Morgan's second time as champion. He also won in 1979.
Kathy Walker of Goldsboro took first place in the women's division with herproficient -- and ear-splitting -- hollering.
The event is staged annually by the Spivey's Corner Volunteer FireDepartment. Profits will go towards buying a new fire truck.
