Over the last 30 years, the Civic Center arena has been the place fortournaments, concerts, and many other events in Cumberland County.With a new coliseum in the works though, authorities were considering bulldozing the older place, but now there's talk of putting an indoorsoccer field there.Karl Molnar of Sportszone says he'd hate to see such a great building gounused.
Molnar says Sportszone hopes to convince area soccer enthusiasts theywould get a kick out of playing the game indoors.
But before Sportszone can roll out the astro-turf, there are manydetails to be worked out. One big question is whether Sportszone willmanage the place or just be a tenant. there's the matter of theauditorium down the hall. Kendall Wall, Civic Center general manager, saysthere could be conflicts.
On top of that, the Civic Center still wants to host some events in thearena, so it will take a solid game plan to put up some new nets here.
If things work out at the arena, Sportszone hopes to eventually scorea professional indoor soccer team for Fayetteville.
