Cigarette Sale Sting Results Good, Not Perfect

DURHAM — Just six stores out of 38 visited soldcigarettes to minors during a police sting in Durham Monday and Tuesday.

D.A.R.E. officers say they're encouraged that most of the clerks did theright thing.

For the most part, clerks asked the teens for identification, then refused to sell them cigarettes.

The six clerks who did sell to minors have been charged with amisdeamnor and could be fined up to $1,000.
