LUMBERTON — Medical examiners will have to decide how two people died in Lumberton Wednesday.
Police found the bodies, believed to badly burned, inside a house on MacArthur Street. Elizabeth Baxley, 78, and Sam Braswell, 57, lived in the house and are believed to be the victims, although the bodies have not been officially identified.
There was a fire at the scene, possibly set to cover up a crime. Investigators won't say much about what they found, except that there were signs of a homicide. Lumberton police called in the SBI to help with the investigation.
Police said broken glass just above a window latch indicated the crime may have been a burglary that escalated to murder.
Braswell, a former Saint Paul's High School teacher, was due in court Thursday on charges he took indecent liberties with a minor.
