RALEIGH — Some very special atheletes are in the capital city gearing up for the North Carolina Special Olympics. Sixteen-hundred athletes from 90 counties are in town for the state games.
Opening ceremonies kicked off the state games at Walnut Creek Amphitheater Friday night. WRAL's Jim Payne hosted the event.
Thursday, local law enforcement officials ran the torch into the triangle as a part of their fund raising effort for the Special Olympics.
If you think this event is big, just wait two more years. The Raleigh-Durham area will play host to the World Special Olympics Summer Games in 1999.
