Property Tax Exemption Bill Could Help Farmers
Posted May 27, 1997
RALEIGH — The North Carolina State Senate is scheduled to vote this week on a bill opponents claim will help a few at the expense of the average tax payer.
The property tax exemption bill would particularly help farmers by exempting them from paying taxes on farm or forest land when they're forced to sell the land for developement.
Instead, backtaxes would be paid by the government body or public utility buying the land.
The House has already passed the bill.
