Firefighter Injured Battling Home Fire in...

Posted May 22, 1997

— A Carrboro firefighter was burned over nearly half his body battling the third fire since Sunday at the same Orange County home on South Fordham Blvd.

Federal authorities are joining in the investigation of the blaze.

Officials identified the firefighter as Robbie Crabtree. Chief Mark Rigsbee said Crabtree fell through a floor of the home early this morning. Riggsbee said it is very unusual to have three fires in one week at the same site. He said the house was in good shape when firefighters left it after Thursday's fire.

Two other firefighters suffered minor injuries rescuing Crabtree.

Fires also occurred at the residence Sunday and yesterday. The fire Sunday caused minor damage, but the one yesterday destroyed the home.

The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist local officials in determining what happened.

Crabtree suffered burns over 45 percent of his body and is said to be in serious condition.
