Woman Recovering After Falls Lake Dam Attack

WAKE FOREST — A woman who was attacked and sexuallyassaulted Tuesday at Falls Lake Dam is said to be in stable condition atWake Medical Center. Deputies said her injuries were severe.

Wake County deputies say the 43-year-old female ArmyCorps of Engineers employee was hit in the face by her assailant, thendragged up an embankment into a wooded area. Later, she managed to getback into the parking lot where she was accosted and call to passers-byfor help.

The woman was returning from a work site to get tools fromher truck when she was approached by an unknown white male.

There were dozens of people at the reservoir park at the time.It is a popular area to fish, picnic and exercise. Severalsaid they were shocked to hear what happened and had not seen or heard theattack. Jogger Vincent Nacouzi said he is concerned because many peopleconsider it to be a safe area.

Fisherman Allen Garner said he's heard of several incidents in the park recently.

Park rangers stepped up patrols Wednesday to keep visitors safe.
