New Bern Lockdown Could Remain in Effect

— Officials who locked down the Craven County jail Saturday say it's likely to stay that way indefinitely.

Several prisoners clogged their toilets causing their cells to flood over the past weekend.

The sheriff implemented a lockdown, forcing prisoners to remain in their cells for 23 hours a day. Sheriff Monette says a permanent lockdown will go into effect July 1 because overcrowding.
