RALEIGH — Authorities advise Monday morning commuters toavoidU.S. 1 South and eastbound Cary Parkway. An early morning, head-oncollisionbetween a car and a tractor trailer left one person dead and trafficsnarled on the two busy roadways.
The collision took place on U.S. 1 under the Cary Parkway bridge. A cardriving north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 was hit head-on by a tractortrailer driving south. The driver of the car, whose identity was beingwithheld pending notification of family members, waskilled. Traffic is being rerouted, but long backups are expected.
Police say the accident will not be cleared until at least 8 a.m.
