RALEIGH — Authorities advise Monday morning commuters to avoid U.S. 1 South and eastbound Cary Parkway. An early morning, head-on collision between a car and a tractor trailer left one person dead and traffic snarled on the two busy roadways.
The collision took place on U.S. 1 under the Cary Parkway bridge. A car driving north in the southbound lanes of U.S. 1 was hit head-on by a tractor trailer driving south. The driver of the car, whose identity was being withheld pending notification of family members, was killed. Traffic is being rerouted, but long backups are expected.
Police say the accident will not be cleared until at least 8 a.m.
