RALEIGH — A Wake County man has been sentenced to 16-to-20 months in prison for shaking his infant daughter to death.
Monday a jury found John Ballard guilty of voluntary manslaughter for the 1995 death of his f19-day-old daughter. Ballard says he was carrying the baby and fell down the stairs, hitting the baby's head on the stairs and railing. He said she would not stop crying so he began shaking her without realizing it.
