Hail, Severe Storms Move Through Triangle

RALEIGH — Hail pounded on rooftops across the Triangleand points east Monday night as a line of severe thunderstorms sweptacross the area.

No significant damage was reported, but the hail was widespread. Hailone inch in diameter began falling in Alamance and Chatham counties before10 p.m. In Wake County, hail reports ranged in diameter from .75 inches inCary to 1.75 inches in New Hill. Hail also was reported in the Durham, Johnston, Craven, Duplin, Bladen, Pender and Jones counties.

At WRAL, .69 inches of rain fell overnight, with the heaviest rainsfalling about 3 a.m.

More heavy rain is likely starting tonight and continuing intoWednesday, but the storms are not expected to be as severe as those thatmoved through the area late Monday and early Tuesday.
