Owner of Burned Factory Gets Parole

HAMLET — The owner of a chicken plant where 25 workers died in a fire will be released from jail early. A parole board granted Emmett Roe his freedom Thursday.
The Imperial Foods chicken plant went up in flames in 1991. A jury convicted Roe on two counts of involuntary manslaughter because plant were locked and many could not escape the flames.
Under the conditions of his release, Roe is not allowed to return to North Carolina except for medical care.
