Second Racial Murder Trial Begins Thursday
Posted April 17, 1997
WILMINGTON — The double murder trial of former Fort Bragg soldier Malcolm Wright began Thursday. Wright is charged with gunning down two black Fayetteville residents in 1995.
The 12-person jury what will decide his fate is comprised of six men and six woman. Only one of the jurors is black.
James Burmeister, also a former soldier, has already received two life sentences for his part in the shootings.
Wright's attorney says Wright was present, but did not commit the murders.
The trial was moved out of Cumberland County because of pre-trial publicity.
