The final section of the Fayetteville Central Business District Loopopened to traffic Thursday. The newly-opened half-loop is over four mileslong, connecting southern parts of Fayetteville with northern parts of thecity.
Sonny Cain, the resident engineer for the quarter-century-old project,saysthat he is very pleased with the completion of the Loop.
The 55-mile-long C.B.D. Loop is designed to alleviate congestion aroundFayetteville by providing motorists with several lanes of stoplight-freecommunting around the city.
Also, the Emergency Medical Services building is just off of theLoop. Officials there hope that this new highway will increase theircrews' response times to and from accidents.
Engineers say that the initially-opened sections of the highway, in usesince the 1970's, are still in good condition.
