Wake County Student Charged with Rape of Classmate

RALEIGH — A 16-year-old Wake Forest-Rolesville student is in jail, charged with raping a 14-year-old classmate in the school on Tuesday.
Authorities have charged Kelly Lamont Mitchell with second-degree rape. He is being held in the Wake County jail.
According to investigators, Mitchell forced a 14-year-old girl to have sex with him Tuesday in a faculty restroom while other students stood outside the door.
Captain T.S. Matthews of the Wake County Sheriff's Department says the male students involved are not all telling the same story.
Deputies say there were three classes in session in the vocational building at the time of the alleged atack, but that no one heard anything.
Mitchell says it was consensual sex. Other students said Mitchell had dated his alleged victim in the past.
School Principal Robert Winston says whether the sex was consensual or not, it was not appropriate behavior for school.
Winston said the incident concerns everyone at the school, but that it was an isolated occurrence and should not make parents worry that students are running wild.
No other charges have been filed against the students outside the bathroom, authorities said, because the door was locked.
