GARNER — There was a big scare Tuesday morning at a Garner medical building. Firefighters donned protective gear before entering after potassium-cyanide spilled from a broken machine in a medical office.
Investigators say a worker started cleaning up the dangerous substance before realizing what it was. When someone realized the substance was potentially hazardous, a call was placed to 9-1-1.
The worker who came into contact with the substance was taken to a hospital as a precaution.
The chemical was cleaned up and workers were allowed back inside the building within hours.
