RALEIGH — Two people are hospitalized with severe injuries following a Saturday night wreck.
Police say a tractor-trailer that had just exited Raleigh's outer beltline at Lake Wheeler Road crashed into a car traveling south on Lake Wheeler Road. The impact forced the Mustang across traffic lanes and onto a curb.
A man and woman in the car were seriously hurt and taken to Wake Medical Center. The man was listed in critical condition; the woman was being treated for a leg injury.
Police have not released the identities of the three people involved in the collision. The truck driver's employer is Consolidated Freightways.
There were no other witnesses to the accident. Investigators are trying to determine the cause. The truck, which was a double-length trailer, has been impounded for inspection. It left long skid marks before the impact site.
