Clayton Voters Say No to Temperance
Posted March 19, 1997
CLAYTON — Those who went to the polls Tuesday in Clayton gave their overwhelming approval in an "on-premise" beer referendum.
Many supporters said the vote shows progress for the Johnston County town, and that the ban on selling beer has hurt the area's restaurant business. Opponents had said Clayton could attract new growth without beer sales.
A county-wide vote is scheduled for May to allow mixed drinks.
