Cable Manager Resigns Over Playboy Offering

FAYETTEVILLE — A Time Warner cable manager inFayettevillecompany has taken a stand against video pornography -- by quitting his job.

Earl Larkins resigned from his management job this week afterlearning that his employer, Time Warner Cable, is now offeringthe Playboy Channel. He says working for Time Warner is no different than working at anadult book store.

The cable company just added thepay-per-view service for customers withconverter boxes in the Fayetteville area.

"We spent years and years trying toclean up our image and tear down the500 block of Hay Street," Larkins said, "only to havethe cable company electronicallyresurrect it by television. And now,instead of having to go to the 500block, it's right there in your home."

A Time Warner official says adultmovies make up only a small percentageof cable programming. He says the company will block thePlayboy Channel for any customers whorequest the blocking service.
