KITTRELL — Road crew workers made a grisly discovery Friday when they unearthed some human bones about two miles south of Kittrell near the Wake County-Vance County line.
Workers discovered a human skull in a wooded area just of U.S. Highway 1 and called the sheriff's department. When deputies arrived, they found more human bones scattered around the area.

The sheriff added that his officers have obtained a full set of teeth which will help them identify the remains. He said it appeared to be the body of a woman, based on some personal items that were found at the scene, but that they could not be positive until a medical examiner's report is completed.
Breedlove said there are no missing persons registered in Vance County of that seem to match these remains.
