FAYETTEVILLE — Cumberland County deputies found more than $400,000 in cash in the trunk of a car stopped on Interstate 95 for driving too slowly.
Cash bound in piles of 5-, 10-, 20- and 50-dollar bills were located in the trunk. The sheriff's department suspects the cash was going to be used to purchase drugs.
The occupants of the car were not charged. They have been asked to provide a receipt for the cash. In the meantime, it will stay in the custody of the sheriff's office.
