KNIGHTDALE — A student from Eastern Wake Middle School was killed Friday morning as she ran to catch her school bus.
Twelve-year-old Lauren Beard was waiting in the cab of her father's truck when she saw her bus approach. Troopers say she got out, ran around the back of the truck and into the street where she was struck by a car.
Troopers say no charges will be filed by the driver of the car.
Counselors will be present at the school to assist Lauren's classmates.
