As Killer Goes to Prison, Victims are Remembered

FAYETTEVILLE — James Burmeister may be in prisonconvicted of a double murder, butfor the families of his victims that fact ends only of one chapter intheir tragedy.

Friday, family members laid flowers and wreaths at the spot whereMichael James and Jackie Burden were slain two years ago. Nancy James,widow of one of the victims, says Friday was a difficult day, but only one of many.

There is still another trial to come. Malcolm Wright is also accused inthese crimes and will be tried later this month in Wilmington. And RandyMeadows, who pleaded guilty to driving the killers' car in exchange forhis testimony, will be sentenced after that.

Victims' families plan to be present for both events.
