FAYETTEVILLE — A Cumberland County man made his first court appearance Monday morning, facing charges he raped and kidnapped a convenience store clerk. Now, he is accused of three attacks and investigators say he may be involved in others.
Sunday morning, detectives arrested Archie James Knight, 34, and charged him with second degree rape, second degree sex offense and first degree kidnapping in connection with Sunday's incident. Officers say that assault took place at about 4:30 Sunday morning at the Pantry store on Hope Mills Road.
Harlon Raynor lives next door to Knight in a mobile home neighborhood off Hope Mills Road. Raynor says he knew Knight was trouble after he exposed himself to Raynor's wife twice.
After the additional charges were added, Knight's bond was raised from $60,000 to $1 million.
