Fake Bomb Planted at Cary Restaurant

CARY — The McDonald's restaurant on Kildaire Farm Road in Cary was surrounded by FBI, Cary police and bomb squad vehicles just after noon Thursday. Someone had found a device inside that appeared to be a bomb.
Authorities determined that the device wasnotan explosive device, but said it appeared to have been deliberately designed to look like one. The device consisted of several pieces of pipe, some wires and a ticking clock. It was planted in the men's restroom.
There was no call alerting anyone to the presence of the device.
