Carjackings Reported

Posted February 26, 1997

— Chapel Hill police have issed a warning, following several incidents in off-campus parking lots.

The latest occurred in the parking lot of Mill Creek apartments early Tuesday.

Police say two students were carjacked as they were getting out of a 1993 Jeep Cherokee, and were also robbed shortly after midnight. The suspect was described as a mask-wearing black man, 170 to 190 pounds.

Student Michell Gardi says the latest carjacking hit pretty close to home.

Student Joe Terrell says he's been lucky since he's been at UNC.

Four other cases have been reported during the past week.

Police have advised students to keep watch on the entire parking lot as they walk to and from their cars, and not to be overloaded with bookbags and parcels while walking.

Anyone with information about the crimes is asked to call CrimeStoppers at 942-7515.
