DURHAM — A Durham man is charged with kidnapping and assault after taking several people, including children, hostage and keeping police at bay for hours.
The standoff ended early Tuesday morning when Derrick Harper surrendered to police. Police say Harper threatened to kill one hostage every hour unless he was allowed to see his girlfriend.
No one was hurt during the ordeal.
