CHAPEL HILL — A fire at the Kingswood apartment complex on Highway 54 in Chapel Hill early Saturday morning left dozens of people homeless.
The fire started on the first and second floors of a building in the apartment complex and took several fire departments to put it out.
No one was injured in the blaze. Residents said someone in the building went door to door to make sure everyone was evacuated. Although residents of the complex escaped unhurt, the fire did have them thinking about the deadly rash of home fires that has hit the Triangle this week.
"My heart just went up into my throat. I just thought about all those people who died in all those fires and here it was happening in my neighborhood," said Kingswood resident Jennifer Klenzak.
