SANFORD — A Spring Lake man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the Novembr 1995 murder of a couple whose bodies were never found.
Donald Lewis Abercrombie, 33, was convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of 79-year-old Hoyle Smith and 66-year-old Margie Shaw Boone.
A Lee County jury returned the verdict on Tuesday and must now decide whether Abercrombie is sentenced to death or life in prison without parole. The jury will begin deliberations after lawyers make closing arguments Thursday morning.
