RALEIGH — A legal battle over advertisements placed in theNews & Observerby Sheriff John Baker has been settled.
In June, 1996, Sheriff Baker placed ads to tell the public he needed more deputies. Wake County Commissioners thought the ads inappropriate and refused to pay for them. The newspaper sued.
County commissioners are now agreeing to pay more than $7,600 to the paper.
