Five Feared Dead in Dunn House Fire

DUNN — Fire investigators have narrowed down thepossible cause of the fire that killed Scott and Christina Moon and theirthree sons early Monday morning. They are now looking at a cigarette,candle or match as the possible source of the blaze.

The children were 7-year-old Daniel and 5-year-old Kelly, both studentsat Cleveland Elementary School, and 2-year-old Travis.

Investigators say the fire began in the living room, either in a set of box springs or a sofa.

Dunn fire Chief Austin Tew said it is always difficult for firefightersto deal with fatalities, but that it is particularly hard when childrenare involved.

The house had no smoke detectors; the property owner said he had notbeen able to install them because the ceilings were still wet fromremodeling.

The family had just moved into the house on Valentine's Day.

Cleveland Elementary sent letters home to students' parents Tuesday tolet them know that their children might want to talk about what happenedto their classmates Daniel and Kelly Moon. Guidance counselor RekennaRogers says she and other counselors visited theclassrooms of both boys with some ideas to help the children deal withtheir loss.

Tew says the possible causes are many at this point in theinvestigation of the fire.
