Posted Updated

FAYETTEVILLE — The first week is complete in the doublemurder trial of former Fort Bragg paratrooper James Burmeister.

Star witness Randy Meadows took the witness stand again Friday andtestified that Burmeister admitted to the murders of twoAfrican-Americans. Later, according to Meadows, Burmeister bragged aboutthe shootings while in jail.

During cross examination, defense attorneys tried to discredit Meadows, who has admitted to driving the car Burmeister and Malcolm Wright rode inon the night of the killings. The defense focused on Meadows' lack ofknowledge about a significant tattoo that Burmeister wanted and Meadows'alleged drinking problems.

The trial is expected to last one more week.
