Car, Train Collide in Garner

e-mail print friendly

A man was injured when his car was struck by an Amtrak passenger train Wednesday night.

James Earl Petteway, 25, of Garner, was trying to cross tracks within the city limits when the collision occurred about 11 p.m., said Lt. Chris Hagwood of the Garner Police Department.

Petteway was taken to the emergency room at Wake Medical Center with lacerations and a broken nose after the collision. He was in stable condition early Thursday, the hospital said.

The train did not derail and no one aboard was injured, Hagwood said. The intersection doesn't have a crossing gate but has lights and a bell, he said.

The intersection was cleared off by midnight, Hagwood said.

The collision was the second train-car crash in Garner is the past two days, police said. Both accidents involved the same train and the same engineer.
