Drug Busts Business of Day in Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE — There was another major haul fornarcotics officers working the Fayetteville bus station FridayPolice found what they believe to be about a kilogram of cocaine with astreet value of about $100,000.

Police arrested Jose Sanchez of PuertoRico, who allegedly carried the drugs. He faces several drug relatedcharges.

But even that wasn't the biggest bust of the day in Fayetteville. A fewhours later, narcotics officers stopped a car and found what they called amajor stash of cocaine they think was destined for the streets ofFayetteville.

In the second case, police say they were acting on a tip from areliable source who said a major delivery was on its way into town fromMiami. Police set up a surveillance net using nine cars. They waited 14hours before spotting the suspect's vehicle.

All nine police vehicles converged on the suspect's rental car at once,giving him no means of escape. Police Sgt. Phil Watson says they foundmore than two kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of over$200,000. The drugs, he says, were hidden by an expert smuggler.

Three people were in the rental car when police stopped it. All are nowunder arrest. Two are from Miami, including Curtis Gilmore. Policeidentified the driver as Paul Hester, who recently moved from Miami toFayetteville, according to police.

The three people arrested appeared before a magistrate Fridayafternoon. All face charges including drug trafficking.
