HALIFAX — A young woman is dead after a high speed chase ended in a crash in Halifax and some are wondering why a Division of Motor Vehicles officer was involved in the chase. The car driven by 21-year-old Melody Moseley burst into flames when it slammed into a tree.
Police say Moseley stole the car in Roanoke Rapids after its owner left it running while he went inside a restaurant.
A Division of Motor Vehicles officer spotted the car on Interstate 95 and chased it onto Highway 48. Officer William Bridges says the victim was traveling at a high speed.
Officer Bridges also ran off the road, but was not injured. The North Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating.
