DURHAM — A German shepherd attacked a 10-year-old Durham girl Monday afternoon as she was skating with friends within a few blocks of her home.
Witnesses say Nicki Foster's friends called for help as a young boy grabbed a stick and attempted to fight off the dog. They say one neighbor brought a gun out to try and get the dog off the girl.
Foster is in a hospital being treated for bites to the face, arm and leg. She was expected to undergo surgery Monday night.
The dog's owner did not want to comment. The dog was taken away by animal control.
Witnesses say this is not the first time that dog has attacked someone.
