WAKE FOREST — A construction worker was killed Monday in a freak accident at a construction site in northern Wake County.
Part of a crane broke causing the huge arm of the crane to crash into a house which was under construction.
Sean Jones of Siler City was working on the home when the crane arm fell. Police say the crane's arm was almost fully extended when its anchoring structure broke loose, causing it to lose balance and collapse onto the house.
The home is owned by Tom and Patricia Fitzgerald. Mrs. Fitzgerald and the couple's two daughters were inside the house when the accident happened. They were badly frightened, but not injured.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the accident.
