Triangle to Observe Martin Luther King Jr. Day

RALEIGH — The observance of Dr. Martin Luther King'sbirthday will be marked by many events and activities in the TriangleMonday. In addition, many governmental offices will be closed.

Schools, post offices, ABC stores, banks, city, county and stateoffices will be closed in Wake, Durham, Orange and Johnston Counties.Most stores will be open. Durham buses will operate on a holidayschedule; other bus lines will be closed. There will be no garbagecollection Monday. Most public libraries will be closed.

Among the activities planned for Monday:

King Interdenominational Prayer Breakfast, Sheraton Imperial, RTP, 8a.m.

Governor's Liberty Bell-Ringing Ceremony, Bicentennial Plaza at thestate capitol, Raleigh, 10:30 a.m.

Memorial March, departs from north side of capitol, Raleigh, 11:30 a.m.

Unveiling of water monument at Martin Luther King Memorial Gardens,Raleigh, 4 p.m.

Unity March from N.C. Mutual Building to Community Shelter for HOPE,Durham, 10:30 a.m.

Community Memorial Service, First Baptist Church, Chapel Hill, 3 p.m.
